Mr Bongo

Mr Bongo is a Brighton-based independent record label, film imprint and publishing house founded in 1989. Starting out as a small record shop in London’s Soho importing hard-to-find vinyl from independent hip-hop labels, it quickly became a key source for rare grooves and global music. Over the years it evolved from retail into label operations and later added a film arm dedicated to reissuing rare, art-house and cult classics from around the world. The label is known for high quality reissues and new releases across Brazilian, Latin, African, reggae, jazz and other global styles, bringing underappreciated or difficult-to-find gems to a wider audience. Its catalogue includes work by artists such as Ebo Taylor, Jorge Ben, Hollie Cook, Seu Jorge, Arthur Verocai, Prince Fatty, Nancy Wilson and many others. Mr Bongo’s publishing arm handles licensing and synchronisation for film, TV and advertising, while its ongoing compilation series and curated projects reflect a deep commitment to discovery, authenticity and the preservation of musical heritage.
