Roots

Roots is a contemporary sub‑label dedicated to reissuing foundational techno records from the seminal Plus 8 catalogue, focusing primarily on landmark releases by Speedy J. Launched recently, the label brings meticulous remasters of late‑1980s and early‑1990s 12″ classics—such as the Intercontinental, Rise EP, Hemi‑Sync, and Evolution—into the present day with crisp sound quality and faithful vinyl pressings.

Operating with a collector’s frame of mind, Roots issues strictly limited pressings on heavyweight vinyl, complete with accurate reproduction of original artwork, labels, and sleeve design. The catalog numbers (ROO001–ROO004+) correspond directly to the reissued EPs, offering a fresh take on historic Detroit and Chicago‑inspired techno tracks that were first released on Plus 8.

Musically, the label celebrates the pioneering early works of Jochem Paap (Speedy J) and his contemporaries—preserving the raw drum‑machine grooves, bleeping melodic motifs, acid‑flavored textures, and minimalist percussion that helped define the second wave of techno.

Roots acts as both an archival project and a cultural connector—bringing classic Plus 8 music to modern audiences while honoring the genre’s origins. It’s an essential resource for DJs, audiophiles, and collectors eager to experience these touchstone recordings in high-quality form.
