Jack Peoples

Jack Peoples is an alias of James Stinson, the late Detroit electro visionary best known as one half of Drexciya. This moniker surfaced posthumously with the release of Laptop Café, a mini-album believed to have been produced around the same period as Stinson’s deeply revered project The Other People Place.

Unlike the polished, melancholic techno of Lifestyles of the Laptop Café, the Laptop Café EP under the Jack Peoples name reveals a looser, more playful side of Stinson’s creativity. The tracks weave together experimental electro, downtempo grooves, jazz-tinged chord progressions, and occasional vocal samples, including faux live elements like canned applause and stage announcements.

The music offers a rare glimpse into Stinson’s process—at once quirky, heartfelt, and rhythmically rich. Though minimalist in construction, the release has a warmth and eccentric charm that adds nuance to his body of work.

Jack Peoples stands as another chapter in the multifaceted legacy of James Stinson, a reminder of his restless creativity and his capacity to shift between conceptual precision and spontaneous expression.
