Elecktroids

Elecktroids is a legendary and enigmatic electro project, widely believed to be a side project of Drexciya members James Stinson and Gerald Donald. Emerging in 1995 with the now-classic album Elektroworld, the group presented themselves as “four young sons of an electrician” from Flint, Michigan. Their visual identity—boiler suits, obscured faces, and a strict adherence to anonymity—paid tribute to Kraftwerk while reinforcing their own mythos.

Elektroworld is a cornerstone of modern electro, combining sharp machine-funk rhythms, vocoder-heavy vocals, and sci-fi narratives rooted in futuristic vision and working-class heritage. Tracks like “Future Tone,” “Midnight Drive,” and “Japanese Elecktronics” showcase a sound that is playful, robotic, and deeply rooted in Detroit’s legacy of electronic innovation.

Though short-lived, Elecktroids also released the Kilohertz EP, cementing their status as masters of minimal, intelligent electro. Both their releases have been reissued due to continued demand, further solidifying their cult status.

With a discography that spans only two records, Elecktroids achieved an outsized influence, embodying the purest ideals of electro: anonymity, futurism, and machine soul. Their work remains a vital touchstone in the genre’s history.
