Benny Sings

Benny Sings is the musical project of Dutch artist Tim van Berkestijn, a singer, songwriter, and producer known for his warm, melodic blend of indie pop, soul, and jazz-inflected R&B. Born in Dordrecht, Netherlands in 1977, he began his career in the Dutch underground scene, playing with groups like Abstract Dialect and Heavenly Social before releasing his solo debut Champagne People in 2003.

Over the years, Benny Sings has cultivated a signature sound that fuses mellow grooves, analog textures, and crisp songwriting—often described as breezy, nostalgic, and emotionally direct. He has released albums through labels including Dox, Sings Records, and Stones Throw, with standout records like ART, City Pop, Music, and Young Hearts. His work balances pop accessibility with the subtle complexity of jazz and soul traditions.

Benny is also an in-demand collaborator, having worked with artists such as Rex Orange County, Mac DeMarco, Tom Misch, Mayer Hawthorne, GoldLink, and Mocky. His songwriting and production style has earned him a loyal international fanbase, with tracks featured in television series, advertising, and fashion campaigns. He co-wrote Rex Orange County’s breakout hit “Loving Is Easy” and contributed heavily to Rex’s album Who Cares?

Known for his laid-back charm and refined musicality, Benny Sings continues to bridge the worlds of independent pop and beat-driven soul, crafting songs that feel both intimate and timeless.
