Main Street

Main Street Records is a German sub‑label launched in 1993 by Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus as part of their Basic Channel collective. It served as a creative outlet where they explored the intersection of deep house, techno, and dub, blending rhythmic minimalism with lush, hypnotic textures. The label was used to issue standout tracks like “I’m Your Brother” and “New Day,” as well as extended dub explorations such as “Quadrant Dub II.” Its intentionally understated aesthetic—sleek production, subtle use of vocals, and dub‑infused atmospheres—helped define the sound that would come to be known as dub techno. Though the main series wrapped in the late 1990s, Main Street Records remains highly influential, its sparse vinyl releases still sought after by collectors and DJs who cherish its timeless fusion of minimal dancefloor energy and dub’s spacious depth.
