Dudley Perkins

Dudley Perkins, also known by his alias Declaime, is an American rapper and singer from Oxnard, California. His work blends hip hop, soul, funk, and experimental music with a distinctive spiritual and introspective tone. Beginning his career in the early 1990s, he gained early attention through collaborations with West Coast underground artists and producers, particularly Madlib.

Perkins made a significant impact with the albums A Lil’ Light and Expressions (2012 A.U.), both released under his birth name on Stones Throw Records. Produced entirely by Madlib, these records showcased his unorthodox vocal style and philosophical lyricism, earning a cult following for their blend of gritty beats and raw, soulful expression.

He later co-founded the label SomeOthaShip Connect with producer and collaborator Georgia Anne Muldrow, establishing a creative hub for boundary-pushing, consciousness-driven music. The two have released multiple collaborative projects, further cementing their reputation as leaders in progressive soul and experimental hip hop.

Perkins continues to record under both Dudley Perkins and Declaime, known for his prolific output, spiritual messages, and unwavering individuality within the independent music landscape.
