Channel One

Channel One is an alias used by Detroit techno pioneer Juan Atkins, often referred to as the “Godfather of Techno.” Under this moniker, Atkins released the track “Technicolor” in 1986 on his Metroplex label, a collaboration with vocalist Doug Craig (cousin of Carl Craig). The track is characterized by its futuristic synth lines and electro rhythms, reflecting Atkins’ vision of a vibrant, machine-driven musical landscape.

“Technicolor” stands out as a playful and exploratory piece in Atkins’ discography, emphasizing the aesthetic possibilities of electronic sound. In a 2005 interview, Atkins described the track as “more fun than politically driven, just about the colors and combination spread from colors”

The Channel One alias represents Atkins’ versatility and his commitment to pushing the boundaries of electronic music, contributing to the rich tapestry of Detroit’s techno scene.
