Blue Note

Blue Note Records is one of the most iconic and influential jazz labels in music history. Founded in New York City in 1939 by Alfred Lion and Max Margulis, and later joined by visionary producer Francis Wolff, Blue Note built its legacy on a commitment to artistic freedom, authenticity, and high production standards. From its early catalogue of boogie-woogie and swing to its pioneering recordings of hard bop, soul jazz, modal explorations, and avant-garde, the label has remained a cornerstone of the genre for over eight decades.

Blue Note is renowned for its roster of groundbreaking artists, including Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, and many others. Its instantly recognizable album art, often designed by Reid Miles and featuring Wolff’s striking photography, helped shape the visual identity of jazz.

With a renewed presence in the 21st century through projects like the Tone Poet and Classic Vinyl series, Blue Note continues to reissue its classic albums with care while also signing and supporting contemporary artists pushing jazz forward. The label’s name has become synonymous with innovation, integrity, and timeless sound.
