Boom bap is known for its hard-hitting drum patterns, gritty sampling, and raw, head-nodding rhythm. Emerging in the late 1980s and early 1990s, primarily on the East Coast of the United States, boom bap features punchy kicks (“boom”) and sharp snares (“bap”)—often created using classic samplers like the SP-1200 or MPC.
