Non Phixion

Non Phixion was a groundbreaking New York hip‑hop quartet formed in the late 1990s, comprised of MCs ILL Bill (Isreal Amezedu), Sabac Red (John Fuentes), Lord Goat (formerly Goretex, Michael A. Hills), and DJ Eclipse (Chris Martin). They released their only studio LP, The Future Is Now, in 2002 via Uncle Howie Records. The album became a cult classic, thanks to its unapologetically raw production and socially conscious, conspiracy‑tinged lyricism.

The group brought together a dream team of producers—DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, JuJu of The Beatnuts, Necro, Dave 1 (Chromeo), and T‑Ray—marking a rare alignment of legendary beatmakers. The tracks delivered dense head-nodding grooves alongside dystopian and street-level storytelling, with standout singles like “Black Helicopters,” “Drug Music,” and “Rock Stars.” Guest appearances from MF DOOM, The Beatnuts, and heavy hitters from the rock and metal world added to the album’s genre-crossing intensity.

Lyrically, Non Phixion was unapologetically political and anti-establishment, delving into themes of surveillance, power, and societal decay with gritty eloquence. They gained recognition on the Billboard Independent and Heatseekers charts, and The Future Is Now remains a pillar of underground hip-hop, often cited as one of the last visionary group records of the era before the rise of solo producer‑led projects.

With only one full-length, the group left an outsized legacy: Non Phixion represents a moment when gritty boom‑bap, avant‑guardian iconography, and sharp street reportage coalesced into a defining sound for alternative rap.
