He began his career in the late 1980s as a member of Marley Marl’s Juice Crew, making a notable debut on the 1988 posse cut “The Symphony” alongside Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, and Craig G. His solo debut, Take a Look Around (1990), showcased his lyrical prowess and set the stage for his future endeavors.

In the early 1990s, Ace formed Masta Ace Incorporated, releasing SlaughtaHouse (1993), a satirical critique of gangsta rap, and Sittin’ on Chrome (1995), which blended East Coast lyricism with West Coast-influenced beats. The single “Born to Roll” from this period became a crossover hit, peaking at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100.

After a brief hiatus, Ace returned with Disposable Arts (2001), a concept album that received critical acclaim for its narrative depth. He continued this trend with A Long Hot Summer (2004) and The Falling Season (2016), further cementing his reputation for crafting cohesive, story-driven projects.

In 2000, Ace was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a condition he publicly disclosed in 2013. Despite this, he has maintained an active presence in music, inspiring fans with his resilience and dedication to the craft.

Masta Ace’s enduring influence is evident in the work of artists like Eminem, who have cited him as a significant inspiration. His commitment to authentic storytelling and innovation continues to resonate within the hip-hop community.
