Madvillainy – Four Tet Remixes (8-Bit Cover)
Availability: In stock
Four Tet Remixes is an EP featuring reinterpretations of select tracks from Madvillainy by acclaimed electronic producer Four Tet (Kieran Hebden). Usually the only person to remix Madlib records is Madlib. But following the success of MF DOOM & Madlib’s album Madvillainy in 2004, our partners in Europe proposed having producers not normally associated with MF or Madlib to remix some of the tracks for Europe-only vinyl releases, and the Four Tet Remixes (by producer Kieren Hebden) were born. Released in 2005 on vinyl and promo CD, it was out of print for many years. Stones Throw brought it back with the 8-bit cover for record stores around the world.
Four Tet’s reworks stretch the original beats into minimal, hypnotic, and atmospheric directions, blending glitchy textures with warm loops and fractured percussion. Tracks like “Accordion,” “Meat Grinder,” and “Money Folder” are transformed with subtle shifts in tone and space. Production note: last track – “Rhinestone Cowboy” – DOOM x Four Tet collab. DOOM took an interlude from Four Tet’s remixes, looped it, made a new beat, and re-recorded the vocal (remixed the remix).
The result is a rare and compelling meeting point between the worlds of abstract hip hop and experimental electronic music.
