Curls & All Caps
Released in early 2004, Curls & All Caps is the second single from Madvillainy, the landmark collaboration between MF DOOM and Madlib. The duo—brought together by Stones Throw—crafted the Madvillainy album across 2002 and 2003, with Madlib producing many of the beats during a trip to Brazil using a portable setup, and DOOM recording vocals in Los Angeles. This single was issued shortly before the album’s release and includes two of its most iconic tracks, All Caps and Curls, each presented with both vocal and instrumental versions.
Adding to its value for fans and collectors, the EP also features two non-album instrumentals: The Illest Villains (Remix), a rework of the album’s cinematic opener, and Scene Three, an eerie, sample-based sketch that expands the world of Madvillainy. The release captures the lo-fi, collage-heavy aesthetic that defined the project and offers insight into the raw creativity behind one of hip hop’s most revered partnerships. Original promo pressings included hand-painted sleeves, reflecting the label’s DIY spirit during a pivotal era in underground hip hop.
