Thauma is the debut album by Big Hands, the alias of Italian-born, London-based artist Andrea Ottomani. Released on April 11, 2025, through the Canadian label Marionette, the album was conceived during a voyage across the Mediterranean Sea in June 2024. It features ten interconnected tracks that blend field recordings from Italy, Greece, Egypt, and Turkey with tuned percussion instruments like bells and balafon. Collaborations with artists such as Palestinian vocalist Bint Mbareh, saxophonist Buster Woodruff-Bryant, and percussionist Yusuf Ahmed contribute to the album’s rich tapestry of sounds. Thauma weaves together elements of spiritual jazz, ambient textures, and polyrhythmic structures, creating a sonic journey that evokes a sense of nostalgia and wonder.
