Originally released in 2007 on Honest Jon’s Records (catalog number HJP36), this 12″ vinyl features a remix of Tony Allen’s “Ole” by Moritz von Oswald, a key figure in Berlin’s electronic music scene and co-founder of Basic Channel. The remix blends Allen’s Afrobeat rhythms with von Oswald’s minimalist dub techno style, incorporating elements like Yinka Ogunye’s percussion, Rolling Dollar’s vocals, and Oscar Olimbi’s guitar licks, all layered with von Oswald’s signature Oberheim synthesizer voicings and additional drumming. The B-side includes “Ise Nla (Reggae Land Dub),” a rework by Wareika Hill Sounds that offers a stripped-down dub interpretation with prominent trombone and percussion. The latest reissue in 2025 preserves the original’s sonic integrity, reaffirming its status as a seminal work in the fusion of Afrobeat and dub techno.
