Big Shots (CD)

Big Shots is the long-shelved debut album by Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf, finally released in 2003, a decade after it was recorded. Capturing sessions from 1991 to 1993, the album reflects the Bay Area duo’s chemistry at its peak—Charizma’s charismatic, nimble rhymes delivered with playful confidence, and Peanut Butter Wolf’s sample-heavy production rooted in classic boom bap aesthetics.
The project stands as a vivid snapshot of early ’90s West Coast underground hip hop, eschewing G-funk for a rawer, more East Coast–influenced style. Tracks like “My World Premiere,” “Tell You Something,” and “Devotion” blend soul, jazz, and funk samples with punchy drum programming, highlighting the synergy that earned the pair a cult following. Tragically, Charizma was killed in 1993 before the album could be released, and this posthumous issue serves both as a celebration of his talent and a cornerstone in the Stones Throw legacy. The CD format captures the full 14-track sequence in its original, unfiltered form.
