Quarantine Tapes Volume One is an expansive 2½-hour collection of improvisational compositions recorded live by Brian Ellis in March and April 2020. Executed entirely without computers—using analog drum machines, modular synths, and a vintage mixer into cassette—and mastered to VHS tape, the release captures raw and spontaneous creative flow. Each piece unfolds as a cinematic journey through sounds like “Town Car,” “Spinning Lights,” “Cigar Stub,” and “Fade Raw,” featuring warped drones, charged percussion, and ambient electronics.

This work bridges experimental electronics and beat culture, applying real-time sound design over extended runtime per track. The double cassette edition includes cover art by Alan Forbes and packaging designed by Ellis himself. It stands as an essential moment in improvised beat-making—a compelling document of what can emerge under lockdown conditions yet rich in groove and texture.
