C’Est L’Aventure
Availability: In stock
Precious, timely, and moody reflections on migrating from Côte d’Ivoire to Moss, Norway, delivered with raw honesty and warmth by vocalist Maimouna Haugen. The A-side delivers over eight minutes of ruff breakbeat funk with nimble live bass played by Maimouna’s father (of Kambo Super Sound), and expert percussion from Stiletti-Ana (of Helsinki’s Jesse). Even in their delirium, b-boys and girls will savour the echoes of the Incredible Bongo Band in the explosive chorus section.
On the B-side, the “Dubplate Mix” goes deeper—an immersive cosmic steppers dub that introduces Gilb’r and DJ Sotofett on spaced-out keyboards, pushing the energy into a psychedelic, percussive workout with no let-up for the dancefloor. The arrangement unfolds like a journey—both personal and collective.
The lyrics are a powerful spoken recollection of dislocation and resilience:
“It was in 2001 / I got the letter / A letter that said / I would travel to a cold world / Not knowing what would happen / I was full of loneliness / No country / Everyone was different / Not only skin colour / The way people spoke / The way people behaved / That’s the adventure / Obey / This is the story we’re told / The key to success / So we can do everything for our parents / Who need us / Desperate for a better life / That’s the adventure.”
Released as one of three knockout EPs in the series, housed in hand-stamped, poly-lined sleeves—C’Est L’Aventure is a powerful cross-cultural statement steeped in rhythm, migration, and spiritual uplift.
Presented in a printed inner sleeve only, no jacket.
